For the moon shined on my bed last night, No rest I could not find, For thinking on the bonnie boy, The boy I left behind. If he were here that I love dear I’d go to my bed and sleep, But instead of sleep, all night I weep And mony’s the tear I shed. Young men so full of jealousy, Young girls so frank and free. If it was my will I would be still In my love’s company. If he were here that I love dear I’d go to my bed and sleep, But instead of sleep, all night I weep And mony’s the tear I shed. For an auld man came a-courtin’ me An’ he asked me tae be his bride. My parents, they advised me To give up my one true love. He had little money, It was all they would endure, But I will live in poverty And wae the lad I loe. For it’s some they speak of my true love, Yet mony more speaks o’ me, But I let them all say whit they will And I’ll keep his company. I let them a’ say whit they will An’ I’ll do the best I can, For I’m bound to leave this country And follie my nice young man.

Gazing out on blue, These oceans are new to me today Seeking truth, lost sight of all along the way But you’ll take my hand, We’ll wander through this land together Mark my steps upon the shore, Give me more to see and feel while I’m awake Darkness waits, no concern for time or place, Finds me here But you’ll take my hand, We’ll wander through this land together Help me make believe, stay here, We don’t ever have to go Can’t deny, no matter how I try, You feel like home But you’ll take my hand, We’ll wander through this land together Make no plans, we can work it out along the way, If you take my hand, We’ll wander through this land together Time may be all we have to spend What we leave behind, we can find anywhere we go, If you take my hand, We’ll wander through this land forever Gazing out on blue, These oceans are new to me today Seeking truth, lost sight of all along the way But you’ll take my hand, We’ll wander through this land together Make no plans, we can work it out along the way If you take my hand, We’ll wander through this land together

I’m wearin’ awa’ Jean, Like snaw-wreaths in thaw, Jean, I’m wearin’ awa’ tae the land o’ the leal There’s nae sorrow there, Jean, There’s neither cauld nor care, Jean, The day is aye fair in the land o’ the leal Tae me ye hae been true, Jean, Your task has ended noo, Jean, For near kythes my view o’ the land o’ the leal Oor bonnie bairn is there, Jean, She was baith guid an’ fair, Jean, An’, o, we grudged her sair tae the land o’ the leal But dry that tearfu’ ee’, Jean, Grieve na fur her ‘n me, Jean, Frae sin an sorrow free is the land o’ the leal Noo fair ye weel, ma ain Jean, This warld’s cares are vain, Jean, We’ll meet and aye be fain in the land o’ the leal I’m wearin’ awa’ Jean, Like snaw-wreaths in thaw, Jean, I’m wearin’ awa tae the land o’ the leal There’s nae sorrow there, Jean, There’s neither cauld nor care, Jean, The day is aye fair in the land o’ the leal

Since e’er I was a laddie an toilin’ at the ploo I hae wrestled sair wae fortune this weary world through, But what lightens a’ ma toil is that happy ‘oor at e’en, When I meet ma bonnie lassie ‘neath the gloamin’ star at e’en ‘Neath the gloamin’ star at e’en, ‘neath the gloamin’ star at e’en, When I meet ma bonnie lassie ‘neath the gloamin’ star at e’en Awa’ ye haughty nobles wha deem such pleasures sma’, There’s joy that never enters yer lordly hame nor ha’, For the joy o’ joys tae me is that happy ‘oor at e’en, When I meet ma bonnie lassie ‘neath the gloamin’ star at e’en Why should I seek for riches when toilin’ at the ploo? There’s flooers intae the peasant’s path a King might stoop to pull, For yonder comes ma lassie in beauty like a Queen, An’ I’ll clasp her tae ma bosom ‘neath the gloamin’ star at e’en

Wasting Time 04:05
Empty room, things unsaid, Echoed in the stillness, Words were tools we used to mend, But you have nothing left to say, so I cannot pretend And I know in this heart of mine There’s no use in wasting time, So I have to let you go Never in doubt you cared for me, Each touch between the silence, Drown out the voices I won’t share, What I was sure I wanted is now no longer there And I know in this heart of mine There’s no use in wasting time, So I have to let you go Empty room, things unsaid, Drowning in the stillness, We’re ships in the night, sinking in Journey over long before it could begin And I know in this heart of mine There’s no use in wasting time, So I had to let you go

Hallowe'en 03:24
The tattie-liftin's nearly through, They're plooin' whaur the barley grew And efter dark roond ilka stack You'll see the horsemen stand and crack O Lachlan, but I mind on you I mind fu' aften we hae seen Ten thoosand stars keek doon atween The naked branches, and below Baith fairm and bothy hae their show A-low wi' lichts o' Hallowe'en There's bairns wi' guizards at their tails Cloorin' the doors wi' runts o' kail And aye you'll hear the screechs an' skirls O' lassies wi' their droukit curls Bobbin' for aipples i' the pail The bothy fire is loupin' heat A new heid-horseman's kist is set Richt o'er the lum whaur by the blaze The auld yin stood that kept yer claes I canna thole tae see it yet But gin the auld folks' tales are richt An' ghaists cam hame on Hallow's nicht Oh freend, oh freends, what would I gie Tae feel yer hand yer axe tae me Atween the dark an' coral licht Awa' in France across the wave The wee lichts burn on ilka grave An' you an' me their lowes hae seen Ye'll maybe hae yer Hallowe'en Yont whaur you're lyin' way the lave There's drink an' daff an' sang an' dance An' ploys an' kisses get their chance But Lachlan, man, the place I see Is whaur the auld kist used tae be An' the lichts o' Hallowe'en in France

Where are you tonight, I wonder? And where will you be tonight when I cry? Will sleep for you come easy, While I alone can't slumber? Will you welcome in the morning At another man's side? How easy for you the years slipped under And left me with a shadow the sun can't dispel I built for you a tower of love and admiration, But I built it so high I could not reach myself The view from my window is a world full of strangers, The face in my mirror is the one face I know You have taken all from me, so my heart is in no danger, My heart’s in no danger, but I'd still like to know Where are you tonight, I wonder? And where will you be tonight when I cry? Will sleep for you come easy, While I alone can't slumber? Will you welcome in the morning At another man's side? There is a silence and it cannot be broken, There is a pure heart and it's there I must go Time will work its healing and my spirit will grow stronger, But in the meantime I would still like to know Where are you tonight, I wonder? And where will you be tonight when I cry? Will sleep for you come easy, While I alone can't slumber? Will you welcome in the morning At another man's side?

Alison Cross 03:53
Alison Cross lives in yon tower The ugliest witch in the north countrie She's trysted me ae day 'til her bower And mony's the braw speech she made tae me She showed me a mantle o reid scarlet Weel wrocht wi gowd and fringes fine Says, "Gin ye'll be my leman sae true This gudely gift, it shall be thine" "Awa, awa ye ugly witch Haud far awa and let me be Afore I'll kiss yer ugly mou I'd raither toddle aroond the tree" She showed me a sark o the saftest silk Weel wrocht wi pearls abune the band Says, "Gin ye'll be my leman sae true This gudely gift's at your command" An' she's ta'en oot her grass-green horn She blew it three times loud and shrill She swore by the moon and the stars abune She'd gar me rue the day I ever was born An' she's ta'en oot her silvery wand She straiked it three time o'er her knee She muttered sic words as my senses failed I fell doon senseless tae the groond It fell upon last Hallowe’en When the seely coort cam riding by The queen's lichtit doon on a gowany bank Nae far fae the tree whaur I did lie An' she's ta'en oot her silvery wand She straiked it three times o'er her knee She turned me back tae ma proper shape Nae mair tae toddle aroond the tree

There cam a letter late yestreen, Oor ship maun sail the morn "Alas," cried the bonnie lass, That ever I was born And it's braw sailin’ on the sea When wind and weather's fair Oh it's better tae be in my love's airms, O gin I were there He’s cam untae her faither’s hoose At twelve o'clock at noon The lassie bein prood herted, She widna let him in But he’s taen a ring frae his pocket, It cost him guineas three, Sayin’ tak ye that my bonnie lass, And aye think weel o me But she’s taen a ring frae her pocket, It cost her shillings nine, Sayin’ tak ye that my bonnie lad, For I hae changed my mind And it's braw sailin’ on the sea When wind and weather's fair Oh it's better tae be in my love's airms, O gin I were there

Ma name's Duncan Campbell fae the shire o’ Argyll, I've traivelled this country for mony's a mile, I've traivelled through Ireland, Scotland an aa, An the name I go under is Erin-go-Bragh Ae night in Auld Reekie as I walked doun the street, A saucy big polis I chanced fur tae meet, He glowert in ma face an he gied me some jaw, Sayin’ when cam ye over, Erin-go-Bragh? Well, I am not a Pat, though Ireland I've seen, Nor am I a Paddy though Ireland I’ve been, But were I a Paddy, that's naethin at aa, For thair's mony's a bauld hero in Erin-go-Bragh Well I ken ye're a Pat by the cut o’ yer hair, Bit ye aa turn tae Scotsmen as sune as ye're here, Ye’ve left yer ain countrie for brakin the law, An we're seizin aa stragglers fae Erin-go-Bragh An were I a Pat an ye knew it wis true, Or wis ah the devil, then whit's it tae you? Were it no for the stick that ye haud in yer paw I’d show ye a game played in Erin-go-Bragh An a lump o blackthorn that a held in ma fist, Around his big body I made it tae twist, An the blood fae his napper I quickly did draw An paid him stock-an-interest for Erin-go-Bragh Bit the people cam roun like a flock o’ wild geese, Sayin catch that daft rascal, he's killt the police, An for every freend I had I'm shair he had twa, It wis terrible hard times for Erin-go-Bragh Bit I cam tae a wee boat that sails in the Forth, An I packed up ma bags an I sailed for the North, Fareweill tae Auld Reekie, yer polis an aa, An the devil gang wi ye, Erin-go-Bragh Sae come aa ye young people, whairever ye're from, I don't give a damn tae whit place ye belong, I come fae Argyll in the Heilans sae braw An I ne'er took it ill bein caad Erin-go-Bragh

The tiny snowdrop slowly rises, Pushing through the frozen ground, Her slender body pastel green, Her young girl’s head, coyly bowed Her petals wae their pale complexion, Moistened by the morning mist, The snowdrop is the maid of Spring, I mind when Maggie wis like this O a’ the flooers that grow around, However colourful they be, They’re pit tae shame when ma Maggie blooms, She’s the rose o’ Summerlee Though she wis just a workin’ lassie, Wae neither frills nor pampered airs, Her beauty was a natural thing, No preened wae jewels or fancy claes And as we walked wild summer places, Where broom and iris grew sae braw, Their brightness in her presence died, Ma Maggie shone abune them a’ O a’ the flooers that grow around, However colourful they be, They’re pit tae shame when ma Maggie blooms, She’s the rose o’ Summerlee
